Profile of Diane Vass
Name and Role
Senior Charge Nurse for Stroke Rehabilitation Ward , Acute Medical Admissions Unit and Healthcare Support Workers
Qualifications
Registered Nurse
Background Information
I line manage a total of 31 nurses in my role in the Stroke Ward.
The Stroke Ward is part of the general medical unit along with Acute Medical Admissions Unit (AMAU), wards 7 and 8. We have 8 designated stroke beds and the ward is classed as an integrated stroke ward due to the fact that we admit acute and rehabilitation stroke patients. We have one consultant who oversees all the patients on the ward.
We work closely with the Chest Heart and Stroke (CHSS) Nurse on the ward and meet on a weekly basis to discuss the progress of patients with other members of the Multidisciplinary team - Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Community Care Officer, dietician and pharmacy - all of whom patients and relatives will have access to during their stay on the ward.
Personal ProfileĀ
I am a happy go lucky type of person and like to see people smiling on the ward, however I do expect staff to work hard to ensure the safety and well being of patients on the ward. Laughter at appropriate times and measures is good for the ward.
Research Interests
I have a particular interest in stroke nursing and health and safety issues, and I have completed the Dementia Champion Course with NHS Scotland.
We participate in the Scottish Stroke Care Audit which evidences our monthly performance for stroke care in the hospital.
