Facilities Placements

Technical and Support Services

We have various opportunities from unskilled to fully trained skilled staff at all levels, shop floor to senior management. The areas we cover are:

  • Patient equipment service and routine maintenance in hospital and home settings. Training is by way of on the job, manufacturers premises and City and Guilds approved certified courses.

  • Decontamination of medical devices for surgical instruments used in various setting major acute sites such as ARI to dental/podiatry surgeries in Local Health Centres and in Schools.

  • Decontamination facilities installation, servicing, maintenance and testing. The services covered are for processing medical devices such as surgical instruments, medical gases, renal dialysis, endoscopes and patient equipment. Staff are trained at all levels from SVQ/NVQ Level3 through to Degree and MSc. Training is by way of on the job, manufacturer premises or on site and approved certified courses.

Estates Department

The Estates Department carries out maintenance tasks on a variety of equipment and buildings at Hospitals, Health Centres, Clinics and other Health Care associated buildings. These repairs can be to the heating system, lights, electric power, beds, windows, roofs, building fabric, locks and many other items in between. We employ a team of Electricians, Engineers, Plumbers, Joiners and Painters to do this work.

We also have a number of electrical and mechanical apprentices serving their modern apprenticeship (MA). The apprentices spend a year at an Approved Training Centre where they learn the basics of their chosen trade, they then return to Estates Department for a further 3 years minimum on-site training to complete the SVQ3 part of their training, in some instances they may go on to achieve a Higher National Certificate (HNC).

There are some 1400 breakdowns or planned maintenance tasks carried out throughout NHS Grampian on average per week.

We also employ a Projects Team who look after the new building or refurbishment works.

Catering

NHS Grampian provides catering services for inpatients and staff in hospitals across the Grampian area. There are opportunities for catering staff at all levels from managers, supervisors, trainers, administration staff, cooks, catering assistants and stores staff. We provide meals 3 times a day from 2 conventional and 1 cook chill kitchen. We make full use of all of the very latest technologies to provide a safe and cost effective service for our patients and staff.

Domestic

NHS Grampian provides domestic services for over 250 health care premises across the Grampian area. There are opportunities for domestic staff at all levels from managers, supervisors, trainers, administration staff, domestic assistants, stores staff and drivers. We provide these services using the full range of all of the latest technologies required to provide safe and clean premises in a cost effective way.

Linen

NHS Grampian provides a linen service for hospitals across the Grampian area. There are opportunities for linen services staff at all levels from managers, supervisors, trainers, administration staff, laundry assistants, sewing room staff, stores staff and drivers. We provide the main laundry service from 2 main sites in Aberdeen and the sewing room service from several hospital sites across Grampian. We provide this service using very large machine utilising the latest technologies to provide linen fit for purpose and in the most cost effective way.

Portering

NHS Grampian provides Portering services for hospitals across the Grampian area. There are opportunities for Portering staff at all levels from managers, supervisors, administration staff, porters, handy persons and drivers. We provide several levels of services, on the main hospital sites porters will move patients around the sites as well as supplies. On smaller sites porters provide more of a handy person service dealing with first line maintenance of premises and grounds. These services use where appropriate the latest technologies required to provide patient safety and safe premises in a cost effective way.

Transport

NHS Grampian provides transport services for health care premises across the Grampian area. There are opportunities for transport staff at all levels from managers, supervisors, trainers and administration staff and of course drivers. We provide several levels of services such as mail deliveries, specimen collection and deliveries, clinical waste collections, medical and surgical supplies deliveries. These services use where appropriate the latest technologies required to provide a safe and cost effective service.

Procurement

NHS Grampian provides procurement services for health care premises across the Grampian area. These services are delivered from our main central stores building on the Foresterhill site. There are opportunities for procurement staff at all levels from managers, supervisors, trainers, administration staff, stores staff, warehouse staff, buyers and ward product management staff. We provide several levels of services such as professional procurement of goods and services for all health care needs. Stock management of all products including medical and surgical supplies at ward level, main and satellite store level. These services use where appropriate the latest technologies required to provide a safe and cost effective service.
