Information for Parents - How Your Parents Can Help

As a parent of a child undertaking work experience, the following information may be helpful. NHS Grampian has policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety of pupils whilst on work experience. These policies can be viewed on NHS Grampian's website, and on the health and safety section of this website.

Parents can help their children by reviewing the Guidance for School Pupils, together, prior to the placement.

Be reassured, that pupils will not view clinical procedures without both patient and doctor's consent. This is due to the sensitive nature of the work in a hospital and the confidentiality associated with it.

All pupils will also sign a confidentiality statement.

Transport and meals/refreshments will be the responsibility of the pupil and not NHS Grampian.

There is no payment for pupils undertaking work experience.

Pupils will be supervised, or within reach of an appropriate member of staff at all times.

In the event of difficulties arising during a placement the placement co-ordinators will be contacted, who will discuss the issue with the Work Experience Unit who may then contact the pupil's school.

NHS Grampian however reserves the right to request that school pupils be removed from placement at any time.

Pupils can expect the support of Occupational Health Services if required only after parents and schools have been advised. This service can provide support if pupils seek to discuss any distressing situations they may have witnessed during their placement.

Any other personal questions can be emailed direct to gram.learningdevelopment@nhs.scot marked for the attention of the manager.
